Altair è una creatura azzurra dalle lunghe orecchie che vive in un mondo fastastico, nel quale viaggia sulle montagne russe che sono appena state disegnate, è sempre in compagnia di un cane verde, è in grado di volare e di fare tante altre cose incredibili. Talvolta, però, capita che ciò che Altair vuole non corrisponde a quello che può fare: questo rende le sue avventure particolarmente divertenti. In tutto ciò, la sua migliore amica, che è una stella di nome Blip, lo aiuta a capire il mondo che li circonda, commentando ogni avvenimento in maniera spiritosa.

Il nome del protagonista deriva da quello dell'omonima stella.
