Re Barbis III, sovrano assoluto del piccolo Regno delle Patate, è molto attivo ed attento alle esigenze dei suoi sudditi, oltre ad essere un assiduo lettore di quotidiani finanziari. Purtoppo, egli è perennemente turbato dalla presenza di un drago che vive in una caverna ubicata nel territorio del suo regno: si tratta, in realtà, di un animale assai pacifico, ma a cui piace prendersi costantemente gioco di Barbis III, lanciandogli addosso il suo soffio infuocato ed incenerendolo tutto, barba compresa. Il re si rivolge pertanto a tutti i cavalieri, promettendo loro la mano di sua figlia, la principessa Melody, a colui che riuscirà a debellare il drago. La ragazza, però, è innamorata di Riri, il giullare di corte, il quale ogni volta tenta di ostacolare i cavalieri, con l'aiuto degli amici Juju e Mago Merlino, per impedire che Melody venga data in moglie ad un altro.
