Cartone animato basato sulla serie di libri Clifford the Big Red Dog di Norman Bridwell.

Clifford, un cane dal pelo tutto rosso, è stato scelto dalla piccola Emily Elizabeth Howard città come  regalo di compleanno. Inaspettatamente, però, egli inizia a crescere sempre di più fino a diventare gigantesco, ma per la ragazza è sempre il suo amato cagnolino. Per poterlo tenere, la famiglia Howard è costretta a lasciare la città ed a trasferirsi in un'isola chiamata Birdwell Island (denominazione tratta dal cognome dell'ideatore dei personaggi di questa serie). 

Ha avuto anche uno spin-off dal titolo Un cucciolo di nome Clifford.

Clifford, nella versione originale, è stato doppiato da John Ritter.

Ne è stato tratto anche un film omonimo.
