Eric Tiberius Duckman è il papero più inaffidabile del mondo: pigro, egoista, testardo e con il becco storto, egli non brilla certo per le sue qualità né come padre nè come investigatore privato, pur senza scoraggiarsi mai.
Egli vive assieme ad una cognata isterica e fissata con la forma fisica di nome Bernice Hufnagel, che è sorella gemella della sua defunta moglie Beatrice, al suo primogenito Ajax, tutto ciccia e brufoli e con poco cervello, ai piccoli Charles e Mambo, due gemelli siamesi intrappolati in un unico corpo, ma dall’intelligenza sviluppatissima, ed alla madre obesa, apparentemente muta e particolarmente affetta da meteorismo.
E’ inoltre ossessionato in forma maniacale dalle belle donne; per sua fortuna c’è Willibald Feivel Cornfed - Cornie per gli amici - suo amico fraterno e confidente, che è l’unico in grado di frenare i suoi bassi istinti, oltrechè di risolvere i casi più difficili e i misteri più improbabili che i due affrontano in ogni puntata, anche se è Duckman a prendersi ogni volta tutto il merito (analogamente a quanto accade ne L’ispettore Gadget).
Altri personaggi ricorrenti sono Fluffy ed Uranus, due orsetti che lavorano nello studio di investigazione di Duckman.
 

In questa serie si parla in maniera esplicita di temi come sesso, violenza, vita e morte.
 

Dopo aver ricevuto numerose proteste da parte delle associazioni dei genitori per la presenza di tali contenuti, la prima – ed unica - messa in onda su Italia 1 è stata sospesa dopo i primi 6 episodi.
