Originariamente creati nel 1981 come personaggi per le cartoline di auguri da Elena Kucharik per conto della American Greetings, i protagonisti di questa serie sono dei dolcissimi e coloratissimi orsetti che vivono nel regno di Tantamore, ubicato tra le nuvole; essi, di tanto in tanto, scendono sulla Terra per portare amore e gioia e risolvere i problemi dei bambini, spesso sprigionando la loro energia benefica da uno dei differenti simboli che ciascuno di loro ha sull'addome. A volte, compaiono anche i loro cugini ad aiutarli: questi vivono nella Foresta dei Sentimenti ed hanno la forma di altri animali. I loro nemici sono il terribile Senzacuore (Freddocuore, nella versione Mediaset; Cuore Nero, nei film) ed il suo fido assistente, Mister Bestiaccia (Morso di Gelo, nella versione Mediaset), i quali vogliono portare la tristezza tra gli esseri umani.
