Un giorno, la piccola Millie Burtonburger porta a casa uno strano gatto con gli occhi neri e senza peli, da lei chiamato Mr. Kat (che è di origine aliena). Suo fratello, un ragazzino di dieci anni (Cooper Burtonburger, detto Coop), rompe casualmente il collare dell'animale (che gli serviva per tornare sul suo pianeta); da allora, Mr.Kat combatte ogni giorno contro Coop per tentare di vendicarsi, mentre il ragazzo, assieme al suo fedele amico Dennis, tenta sempre di sabotare quelli che ritiene essere dei piani di invasione della Terra da parte dello strano felino (che, invece, cerca semplicemente di tornare sul suo pianeta portando con sè i suoi croccantini preferiti).

L'ideatore di questa serie, Rob Boutilier, ha preso ispirazione da un suo Sphinx per il personaggio di Mr.Kat e buona parte della trama.
