Serie di cortometraggi animati prodotti dalla Warner Bros a partire dal 1930, i primi dei quali hanno come protagonista Bosko, mentre nei successivi sono presenti molti personaggi animati di questa casa di produzione (come Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Silvestro e Titti, Porky Pig, Taddeo, Road Runner e Wile E.Coyote); gli stessi corti vennero prodotti in bianco e nero fino al 1943.

Si distinguono dagli episodi delle Merrie Melodies - altra coeva produzione della Warner - in quanto questi ultimi, nonostante la ricorrente apparizione degli stessi personaggi sopra citati, presentano dei contenuti di carattere musicale associati ad immagini animate, analogamente a quanto accade oggi nei videoclip.

Tutte e due le serie sopra citate vennero prodotte prendendo ispirazione rispettivamente dai primi Classici Disney e dalle prime Silly Simphonies, che ebbero molto successo all'epoca.

Il titolo originale di questa serie significa "melodie pazzerelle".

I corti delle due serie, a partire dagli anni '60, vennero censurati in quanto contenenti scene ed espressioni offensive verso afroamericani, cinesi, giapponesi ed ebrei, che, negli anni '30 e '40, erano considerate ben accette dalla morale comune; tra questi, vi sono alcuni corti (1 della serie Looney Tunes e 10 delle Merrie Melodies) che, a partire dal 1968, non sono più stati trasmessi per i medesimi motivi e sono noti come i "CENSORED 11".
